Just so my usual readers aren't completely surprised when they read the next two blogs. Yes, those next two blogs are not like my normal blogs. J I'm not usually that "journalist" on this blog. That is partly because I have enough writing "journalistically" when I'm writing articles and partly because, yep I'll be honest, I don't feel like taking the time to edit what I post the way I would an article. And too…its more me and it gives me an opportunity to experiment with other styles of writing. All that said, let me continue with my notice. One of the requirements for World Journalism Institute is that I post some or maybe all of my assignments on my blog. So you are in for some interesting reading over the next four weeks or so. I hope you enjoy. And don't worry I'll still post some of my usual, Sarahish blogs when I get a chance. For your reading pleasure, below you will find my first two completed assignments. I was to read a book and an article and relate the lessons I learned to a contemporary situation. The first one (as you proceed down the page, chronologically it is the second) is about the book We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families, by Philip Gourevitch. It is a well-written and well research book on the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, and personally, I think it's one of the most amazing pieces of journalism I've ever read. The second essay is about a long article called, "Frank Sinatra Has a Cold," by Gay Talese. If you like Frank Sinatra or if you like reading interesting personality profiles, you should check this article out. You can get it in a PDF online, just Google it. Come enjoy this journey of learning and growing in writing and journalism along with me.
