What’s Up

Sorry it has been a couple of days since I wrote about my adventures in NYC.

Be sure a check out all the pictures below (you might have to go to the list on the side to see them all).

Saturday evening, Shasta and I took a walk down 5th Avenue, over to Madison Avenue and then all the way to Central Park. We ate ice cream in the park then walked back home.

Sunday was a GREAT day. I went to a church called Origins that meets in a school on the Upper West Side. It was a very interesting service with a great message. After the service, about six of us went to lunch/brunch at a neat café called MUD. Great food…a little expensive…but great. We came back "home" where I changed then went to a New York Liberty (WNBA) game at Madison Square Garden with Debs and Ryan.

The game was ok…I mean it is women's basketball. But it was great to go to a game at Madison Square Garden.

After the game, we met up with almost all of the WJI students to go to a screening of a little documentary on microfinancing in Kenya. It was at a studio apartment in SoHo, made us all feel like really New Yorkers. I made many neat connections with people in Kenya or going to be in Kenya or interested in Kenya.

After leaving the screening, we decided to go for cupcakes at Magnolia. The cupcakes were ok but the cheesecake was amazing. We got a little lost going to Magnolia's but had a nice tour of Soho and Greenwich Village.

After getting back to our apartments, we had a mock newsroom in the guys' apartment. About nine of us sitting around with our laptops researching and writing stories until about three in the morning.

Today, Monday, was fun. We started the "real" journalism side. We were told to go out for about 45 minutes walk around, take pictures, possibly talk to some people and generally observe what was going on around us and see what we could see that was news worthy. Very interesting exercise. Now we are researching and writing a story about it. Looking forward to it!

More to come.
